Thanks for taking a look at my UA-cam channel, All Things EV. My channel is about documenting my journey as a Tesla owner and the popularity of Electric Vehicles. I've had some wonderful experiences so far like becoming Denver Tesla Club President, attending Tesla's Semi Truck event in November 2017, driven more than 20 different types of Teslas, and putting over 140,000 miles on my car in the first 24 months of ownership. Please enjoy my videos and consider subscribing if you like what you see.

Deffinately woth the cost to go from MCU1 to MCU2
My car claims I'm comparatively spending $4.13 per 50 miles on my Tesla. 2.18 miles per KWh.
I don't even recommend the new one. I have a Tesla Y. Now 60k mileage. The battery degraded 15 percent. that's minus 45 miles. The manufacturer claims 300 miles. But we all know that a Tesla only goes 260-270 miles in reality. now, the last 10 percent you don't want to use as there is a risk of sharpening on the road. Let's do the math now. 270 -10% is 30 miles. and take away degradation. 45 miles. you only have 195 miles left. and this is assuming that you are charged at 100 percent which will kill your battery faster. Now calculate if you charge 80% as I recommend. Then you can only use 160 miles.
The cost is a base model corolla… !brand new
To use single pedal drive you have to switch to manual, then use flappy paddle to set regen level which will be maintained, you do not have to set it every time
Here's my problem. I'm a hobby mechanic. I've been working on cars and trucks since I was a teenager. Despite having a full time career, I haven't had anyone else work on one of my vehicles since I bought my only NEW car back when I was young and dumb, a BMW 325i I bought in my 20s, which I still own (LOL). I can't work on Tesla's, part availability is limited, often only available through service centers. If I could get parts, I'd love to own a Tesla. I'm just not willing to pay $150 to $180 an hour for other people's labor. The fact that the batteries aren't lasting as long as advertised, and even the electric motors aren't as long-lived as I thought, is most disconcerting. I have hundreds of thousands of miles on ICE engines that are still going strong.
How long was it in the shop for and did you have to hire costs
My 6 year old bmw x3 cost me less to maintain
One thing he never mentioned was insurance. It’s quite normal for ev insurance to be much higher than ice cars.
For one of the working poor like myself who will not be able to afford even $40,000 for a new EV that is equivalent to the ICE vehicle I now use (towing, carrying capacity, range & size) who would be keen to buy a second hand EV with 65k miles on the clock, considering that’s about when an ICE vehicle equivalent in EV would be in the price range we can afford??
What do you expect when you drive the car at 156% of the test speed?
The poor suspension is why there is a secondary market of much better parts. There are folks who rebuild motors for much less.
Tesla owners spent allot money on service repairs/ maintenance. Not worth it just to save on EV fuel. I rather pay gas and own a Lexus.
I hope my Nissan leaf gets 300k 😂
The Audi will have high repair costs as the mileage gets up.
So, buying a 60 thousand bucks EV instead of a 30 thousand ICE vehicule isn't a good way to make savings... Who would have known?
I like the EV driving experience a lot, but this video makes me want to buy an EV from a traditional manufacturer. The suspension issues you mentioned are the most galling to me. We have 2 cars, the lesser used of which is a 2010 Ford product with 160K miles and is on the factory suspension components with no issues. I'd like to point out that with 18000+ in non warranty repairs, you could drive a reliable 15 mpg vehicle for 91000 miles. And also i don't think an Audi and a Subaru are good comparison points, both are known for engine issues.
Good information. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You know what I’ve never seen in any Tesla vehicle video . I’ve never seen someone buy a Tesla and fully charge it at purchase and see if the mileage is what is advertised- there should be 0 degradation to account for
All the complaining, whinny about Tesla, wish I had a car that could even make it to 150,000 miles before it’s junk
All 3 cars mentioned here are money pits when it comes to maintenance. I understand that in this case Tesla is considered as a single vehicle for commute, road trips. To me the best deals in overall experience today would be a Ford F150 Lightning or better a Chevrolet Silverado EV. Servicing those 2 vehicles should be much cheaper. They are not finicky like Tesla, Audi, Subaru. The best value overall today might be a Chevrolet Equinox EV with an adapter to use Superchargers.
No oil changes on ev is a myth. Every car needs oil changes
This sounds like a ton of service and maintenance really. Toyotas often go several years without needing anything at all.
What if you had free super charge for life
Nice try yaah! The entire world has lots and lots of oil to produce to sell for cheap but prices of oil are kept artificially high for this EV craze. How about the mining of raw materials for EVs that totally destroys the earth? What about the second hand market for an EV when the battery has to be replaced? EV just makes sense for golf carts and the likes not for a real car. I drive an SUV, a real one. Does Tesla have a size like mine? How about charging it to 100% under 3-5 minutes? I still don’t see EV as a thing but just a toy for an occasion. I could be proven wrong in 20 years.
No mention here of the biggest cost of ownership - depreciation .
I have a 2015 Honda Civic and after 150,000 kms, my repair costs so far has been oil and filters, front brake rotors and pads, a butterfly belt, and a battery.
300k❤❤❤
But the Tesla omitted some of the worst Environmental killing gases while being manufactured 😊. Plus all the energy used to build.it was produced power from coal just like most things are. Then comes the battery pack. Very little companies are doing any true recycling on those things yet so getting rid of that things gonna pollute our wonderful world and water tables. Then you have the outrageous insurance cost because insurers are worried about accidents because they’re gonna damage the battery. Therefore, the expensive battery needs to be replaced. Then we get to there’s only 20% of the normal workforce of mechanics that work on ev cars . And it’s nice they have regenerating breaking to save a little wear on the brake pads, but the cars are 1000 pounds heavier than a gas vehicle and the tires wear like crazy. 😝. Personal transportation only accounts 7% of greenhouse gases . And that’s talking about in every country and every single car ! Driving electric car is not helping anything, but maybe somebody’s conscious that has a woke mentality or is confused by this administration .And yikes did you say $19,000 in car repair 🧑🔧
shit quality vehicles
No way in hell is regular unleaded $3 and the premium $4 at the most it's 30 cents more per gallon not a dollar
I'm sold!
What, as in you are considering buying one?! Crazy costs for the mileage done imho
Seems it's more being an early first gen Tesla than it being a high mileage Tesla.
Tesla’s are great for 7 years. Just dump it before the battery warranty expires. Its not worth keeping after that. Save all the money from not having to buy gas or maintenance and buy a fresh Tesla.
After the battery was replaced you won’t stat the battery degradation of the new battery only saying you don’t see huge jump in degradation..? So there is and as everyone knows electricity, degradation gets worse and worse the more you charge. In 10yrs you’ll have 35% degradation.. Brutal.. I’m not going electric until 2034… Electric cars are a joke and a gimmick. I see people waiting hours to charge. Lmao Idiots
It's 5 years later battery replacements still seem to cost $20k with labor.
Any vehicle will go 300k miles with a replacement engine
Original owner of a 2015 Model S P90D. Here's my story, which happened today (May 21, 2024). Hello Friends and/or Fellow Tesla Enthusiasts, I come to you today with electrifyingly bad news. This will happen to you! Cruising along I5 today in my fully-charged 2015 Tesla Model S P90D with only 45,000 miles on it, I started to notice a faint humming or "milling" sound coming from the wheel area. I had never heard this sound before -- it was a brand new phenomenon with this car and came out of nowhere. The noise was ever so faint, yet definitely detectable. I became curious and decided to test it out -- it would "rev" subtly as I hit the accelerator, and subside as I took my foot off the pedal and coasted, so I knew my ears were not playing tricks on me. Then, all of a sudden, cruising at about 80 mph on the freeway, the screen glitches out, flashes an error message in blood red, and the car completely loses power. I have absolutely no acceleration and can only coast and steer and brake. I tapped the accelerator -- no power. Pumped it hard -- nothing at all. It's "dead in the water", so to speak. At that point, it's a matter of safely getting over to the side of the freeway, but ideally off the freeway entirely and onto a side road where traffic isn't whizzing by at 70+ miles an hour, if at all possible. In my case, I was able to coast all the way over from lane four through moderate traffic to the nearest exit ramp and luckily had a green light at the bottom of the bend, and coasted right into a lot that happened to be within my coasting range. Once at a complete stop, the car was completely undrivable -- a 5000 lb. paper weight. I got it towed to a Tesla service station, where they proceeded to tell me I was the latest victim of the all-too-common rear wheel drive unit failure, and I was free to go talk to a specialist inside about trading it in. Cue the "record scratch" sound. "Wait, what? Trade it in? Why?" "Oh, because....here." He hands me my quote to fix it. It's $7500. "Holy crap!" He nods. "Is this a common thing?" "Yup. And most likely it will happen again. And probably again after that, in time. But if you do want to replace the drive, it comes with a one-year warranty for parts and labor." So, in other words, he's basically telling me, two years from now let's say, when (not if) this happens again, it's another $7500 (minimum). Ya, I'm pretty sure none of us when we enthusiastically bought our Teslas had any notion whatsoever that this is what we were getting into. But this is the reality of the situation. When it happens to you -- and it will, eventually, according to this specialist with the big "T" on his cap who deals with it everyday -- I hope you're not actually sitting in traffic with no means to get off the road. As for me, I'm over Tesla. Stuck with it for now, enjoying it while it lasts, will always love the instant torque and quiet ride -- but it comes with too a heavy price on many levels, and my heart has moved on. I close these thoughts with a famous Thomas Sowell quote: Friends, "there are no solutions, only trade offs." Good luck to you when this happens, and be safe!
Yugo’s seem reliable compared to your Tesla!
I owned a ford edge for 9 years. I spent only about 2000$ in repairs. I do my own repairs when i can. But thats all cost in parts. Makes me wonder if i should even consider a EV now.
Thanks. I was surprised how many repairs were needed on Tesla. I have a Lexus hybrid SUV with 200k miles. The only major repairs so far have been a radiator replacement ($850) and at exactly 200k miles, the catalytic converter ($3500).
Bruh. Transmission fluid change every 30k miles??? Lololol 👍🤡🤡🤡
Weird how Tesla owners just accept crap quality cars
The key word '...should...' OK got it, legendary parts quality, avoid at all costs! 👍
11 cent per kWh expensive? Pfft. I’m paying 43 cents off peak.
Hertz gambled and lost when it placed its big EV bet on Tesla a few years ago. It was a chance for the rental car company to shake up the industry, instead the company bought 30,000 Teslas, got scared away by depreciation and expensive repairs and now wants to get rid of them. While all those used Teslas looked to be great used car deals, it turns out high mileage EVs that were formerly rentals are horrible to own as New York Magazine reported. Hertz had ambitions to make 20 percent of its rental fleet EVs, and it was going to start with a massive Tesla deal that saw the company purchase over 30,000. Expensive maintenance that the company didn’t account for spooked the company enough to start to sell off its fleet. This made for incredible used EV buys, especially when you factor in the used EV tax credit of $4,000. People scrambled to Hertz dealers buying them up. One salesman at a Hertz dealer in Smithtown, New York told New York Magazine that they were selling as many as 30 Teslas a week at one point. A slowdown came when buyers finally started to realize just what they got themselves into. Take Bijay Pandey of Irving, Texas. He went and purchased a 2022 Model 3 Long Range for just $25,000 for his wife earlier this year. Problems with it started not long after he purchased it.
This is to rich for me adios
Ive had a chevy volt for 8 years, repairs: i had an oil pan and gasket, new windshield, battery control module, user interface module, and thats it! Definitely didn’t need a new traction battery 2 years in! Warranty covered all mine, except deductible of $100.
Pos electric cars i wouldn't recommend it if it has zero miles 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you so much. I do not want to cross my fingers for reliability. For a person that just does not do a lot of miles, I think I will go with a used Toyota.
